2018 Highlights

SL1W

Massive improvement from last season’s effort moving up 4 rungs on the ladder in a very competitive pool of teams. Despite fielding short most weekends they held their own and came away with a few wins and draws. Thanks to coach Shayne and manager Lara for a great season.

SL2M

Second season in higher grade and finishing as Minor Premiers is extraordinary. Unfortunately, on the big day things just didn’t come together as well as expected due to solid opposition defence. Thanks to coach Shayne and manager Will for a well-run season.

SL3W

SL3W had a difficult season fielding a team with the same core players each week due to injuries or releasing players to SL1W. However, due their experience and resolve they managed to be placed midway on the ladder at seasons end. Thanks to Heidi for coaching and managing the team.

SL3M

First season as a new team in grade and performed flawlessly to achieve Minor Premiers. Prediction was for a GF win however the shoot outs knocked us out of Premiership. Thanks to coach Kris and manager Bunji for their efforts.

SL4M

This season was always going to be a difficult run after achieving Minor Premiers for the previous two years; and so it was, leaving us short of minors by a couple of points. However, after slipping through on shoot outs at the semi-finals we went on to taking out the Premiership. Thanks to all 16 coaches and manager Jayde for keeping them organised throughout the season!

Masters

This year a few of us represented the ACT at Lismore-Ballina for the Australian Masters Championship; Des Swift in the O60's, Bob Parkes, Billy Nikolov, Gerard Yvanovich and Bunji Michael in the O55s and Chris Lucas in the O50s.

Gordon Gregory also attended representing NSW in the O70s coming away with gold; and Darrell O'Connor represented SA in the O55s.

It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

Training

Our training days are held Wednesdays on Taylor field at the Tuggeranong Hockey Park each week during the season. The training times and duration are allocated each year by HockeyACT at the commencement of season and this will be advertised in the news feeds when made available.

We recommend training for all our players; this is where skills, technical knowledge and understanding your teams dynamics are tuned.

Development Programmes

The following development programs are facilitated by HockeyACT and as we are part of this organisation, our programs are run in accordance with the standards and structure set by them.

Hookin2Hockey is a fun and exciting way to get involved in playing the great game of Hockey. Hookin2Hockey is Hockey Australia's National recruitment program and thousands of children from all over the country have already enjoyed the introduction to Hockey through this program. Hookin2Hockey provides children aged between 4-9 with an opportunity to participate in Hockey in a fun atmosphere with modified rules on a smaller sized playing area.

Hookin2Hockey Sporting Schools offers direct funding to schools to allow them to link up with sporting organisations and quality coaches to deliver sporting programs before, during and after school. The Hookin2Hockey school program is aimed at introducing primary school kids to the sport of hockey.

Senior Umpire Development Program (SUDP) program aims to develop umpires that have potential to umpire senior Capital League matches. We nominate our umpires to participate in the program and provide umpire coaches when required, to assist the nominated umpires. This program will also give our umpires the opportunity to gain Hockey Ed accreditation.

Junior Officiating Education (JOEY) program aims to teach young people the skills of umpiring. Started in 2008, the JOEY program consists of theory sessions and practical sessions with the assistance of senior umpire coaches within the ACT. This program will also give our umpires the opportunity to attain Hockey Ed umpire accreditation.

Important Changes

  • A Hockey Australia Levy (HAL) plus GST is required annually for all playing members.

  • A Club Fee Deposit (CFD) is also required to successfully complete the registration process.

  • Account balances are distributed over three months if fees are not settled during registration.

  • Club fees are exclusive of the HAL and all revolutioniseSport processing fees.

  • Instalments can now be remitted via our Credit/Debit card facility.

2018 Fees

Our schedule is designed to distribute fees over four months to assist members with payments. This initiative evolved from experience of bad debts and the tremendous effort pursuing fees. This format is aimed at easing the burden of a single large payment after deposit and to provide affordable instalments. Members can still settle their fees during registration or any time after within the instalment period if they wish.

We are paperless now!

Paper registrations are now obsolete and will not be accepted.

Why?

Hockey Australia (HA) has asserted that from 2018, all players must register/renew their HA memberships annually; this process includes a mandatory subscription of $25 for Seniors and $15 for Juniors (where applicable) plus GST.

Accordingly, QUHC had expected Hockey ACT (HACT) to adjust down its winter competition fees, but the resulting reduction was not sufficient to allow for a flow-on to playing fees. Despite the removal of the HA levy, HACT’s annual increase and our umpiring levy variation (to align us with HACT’s umpiring community) required an increase in club fees.

However, the committee has agreed to absorb the increase; our club fees comprising of the HACT competition fees, HACT field hire for training, umpiring levy and administration costs will remain as it was last season.

Furthermore, to avoid duplicating data collection our member base will be managed on revolutioniseSport. Please provide accurate and current details when registering or update where applicable when renewing; we rely on this information to connect with you and to manage teams effectively.

We look forward to your registration and wish you all another successful winter competition year.

Player Types

  • Full-time players are members committed to a team for the season and accordingly are invoiced full fees. These players are permitted to fill-in for teams within the same competition (unrestricted) or any other club-subscribed competition (up to 10 games per competition) at no additional cost. Exceeding these limits will however incur an additional fee for that subsequent competition. The player at this point is considered to be a full time player participating in multiple competitions.
  • Casual players are members who can only commit to some games and are therefore eligible to pay the applicable casual rate per game (payable on the day) to a maximum of 10 games per competition. Exceeding this limit on any competition will incur a balance of fee payment for that competition, payable immediately unless prior arrangement with treasury was made. The player at this point is considered to be participating as a full time player. A casual's first game is gratuitous and subsequent games are as indicated in the schedule.
  • Non-Playing members are those who do not participate in any games but contribute to the club's management tasks. Non-playing members do not attract the HAL and or CFD. The registrations of these members are important as it provides us with a broader sense of our membership demographics and appreciation of our volunteer base.
